Here are my psychic predictions for 2014...
One disappointing thing about going to electric cars is that you won't have those huge car explosions in movie car chase scenes anymore.
Just a thought.
If you don't think the robot apocalypse is coming soon, you should take a look at the videos below. You may want to start thinking about what life will be under our robot overlords. The scariest video is the last one. Not only do you have to be worried about what academics and DARPA are up to, but you also need to watch what your kids are doing with their LEGOs.
During a recent visit to my parents, I noticed some sweets in the kitchen. I am concerned for their health, especially my diabetic Dad.
"Mom, why are there Reese's® Peanut Butter Cups in the refridgerator?"
"Because your Dad likes them cold."

Happy New Year. Has it really been a year since my last post? Perhaps my New Year's Resolution should be to blog more often.
Lately I've been distracted by my energetic puppy. The best training advice I've seen so far is "you can only get a dog to do something you want by offering it something it wants". Lucky for me, my puppy will do anything for a few kibbles.
I've also become more aware of litter. I've always been disgusted by the bottles, wrappers, etc. that I see strewn along the path. But now I see so much more. When walking the puppy, it finds little pieces of trash to eat that I never noticed before. I spend as much time pulling little bits of paper and who-knows-what out of it's mouth as I do walking.
After a few weeks of using my new Droid phone, I'm ready to share my opinions...
As far as being a phone, it's just so-so. In fact the old POS phone that my friends and family constantly ridiculed me about was a much better phone. It was more ergonomic for holding up to your ear. It had a real number pad that you could dial by feel, especially while driving, and without first pressing another button to bring up the dial pad. It was also smaller and lighter, easy to fetch out of a pocket and use in a hurry. The sound quality of the Droid speakerphone also leaves a lot to be desired.
That being said, the Droid is a FANTASTIC gadget that is definitely worth having. The killer app is the Google Maps Navigation. It works without requiring the additional navigation service from Verizon that many other phones need (though you are paying a hefty all-inclusive data services fee for the 3G network) and is easy to use. Combined with the built-in voice search, you can speak "directions to Taco Bell" and within seconds your Droid is providing on-screen and voice direction to the closest Grilled Stuft Burrito. Like the iPhone, there are tons of apps that can be installed to suit your needs, but without the censorship.
Recently, I took a weekend trip to visit Natural Bridge, VA to see the one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World. For starters, this claim is a load of poop. The Natural Bridge is listed as a contender (among many) on one website, but not on most others [1,2]. Despite delusions of grandeur, it's actually pretty spectacular. It's hard to imagine how big it is until you notice that I am in the picture (circled in yellow).
Next stop...foamhenge. As tacky as that sounds, I actually enjoyed a quick visit. Best of all, it saves me a trip to England. The artisit, Marc Cline, also has a Haunted House and Dinosaur Kingdom that I recommend. Bring the kids. They'll be scared.
Almost as scary as the Haunted House, was this toy, on display at the Toy Museum located inside the Natural Bridge Visitors Center. Remember those good ol' days of making your own die-cast toys? Yikes! Caution kids, high temperatures!
